The Prime Minister of Lithuania, Ingrida Simonyte, announced on June 22 that they are donating 20,000 doses of the AZ vaccine to Taiwan. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs mentioned that Taiwan also donated 100,000 medical face masks to Lithuania in April last year. Now that Taiwan is facing the struggles of this epidemic, Lithuania’s act of kindness gives hope and warms the hearts of 23 million people in Taiwan. This proves that “Virtue never stands alone. It is bound to have neighbors.”

In his tweet, the head of the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis, says that although it is a small gesture, he is very proud that Lithuania provided their support to the people of Taiwan in this fight against COVID-19. Freedom-lovers must help one another achieve freedom.

Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that when the epidemic situation in Lithuania was severe, Taiwan donated 100,000 medical face masks to Lithuania to give support to their frontline and medical staff. Now that Taiwan is facing the fight of the epidemic, Lithuania announced its efforts in donating the vaccine despite being geographically far from Taiwan. Lithuania is also the first country of the European Union to initiate vaccine donations for Taiwan. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its sincere gratitude to the Lithuanian government for their kind gesture and concern for Taiwan.

In facing the severity of the global epidemic and the shortage of vaccines, the Taiwanese Ministry of Foreign affairs continues to persevere in gaining access to supplies through various channels. The government will continue to strengthen cooperation with partners like Lithuania having similar views in public health and other similar fields. As a free, democratic country and a responsible member of the international community, Taiwan is willing to continue developing relations and accomplishing key tasks.
