According to DOJ postpones implementation of new outbound travel rules for Filipinos | Inquirer News, the implementation of the updated guidelines for Filipino travelers overseas has been temporarily postponed by the Department of Justice (DOJ), which chairs the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT).
The public's response to the new regulations, which were set to go into effect on September 3, was varied, and MPs even called for full stakeholder discussions prior to implementation.
The Secretary of Justice, Jesus Crispin Remulla, has determined that it is necessary to fully explain the issues surrounding the revised guidelines to both the senators and the public in light of recent concerns expressed by our esteemed senators and to address the significance of transparency and public consultation, the DOJ said in a statement on August 31.
Additionally, the DOJ claimed to be aware of the crucial part that lawmakers play in preserving the rights and welfare of citizens.
It went on to say that it is the responsibility of the DOJ to allay their worries and offer any further information or explanations that are required, assuring them that the goal of the updated regulations is to strike a balance between ensuring national security and facilitating efficient and hassle-free travel.
The Department of Justice would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that the temporary suspension of the implementation of the updated departure formalities guidelines has no bearing on the current laws and regulations governing immigration and travel. The DOJ went on to say that all current regulations and policies are still in effect until further notice.
The deferral of the new outward travel regulations for Filipinos was requested in a resolution that the Senate adopted on Wednesday but has yet to be given a number.
Florin Hilgay, a former solicitor general, referred to the updated travel regulations as a constitutional sleight of hand: from right to travel to permission to depart.
According to DOJ postpones implementation of new outbound travel rules for Filipinos | Inquirer News, the new regulations, however, were seen to be overly onerous on Filipino tourists by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
