The 2020 Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival grandly took place on Feb. 8 at the Shifen Sky Lantern Square. This world-famous event always attracted people to visit from different countries at the Shifen Sky Lantern Square.
This year, the Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival also fascinated people from the world including Japanese people. According to tourism agencies, most of the Japanese tourists had already planned to visit popular sites in New Taipei City first and then go to Pingxi.
The first group of people that went to Pingxi was two 25-year-old tourists from Japan. They set off from Osaka in the early morning, went straight to the venue of the event, and arrived at Pingxi at 6:30 a.m. The reason why they came to Taiwan for the Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival was that they read a report by CNN. They'd like to make wishes to become rich, not be single anymore, and have a good career. Apart from nearly 70-80% of the tourists from Japan at the event, there were also many people from other countries, such as the US, Spain, India, Israel, Iceland, France, and Colombia.
