To echo with the “International Mother Language Day” on February 21, as well as promote the importance of mother tongue. Ministry of Culture (MOC) organized the “2022 International Mother Language Day, National Language and Culture & Life Festival” to raise awareness and encourage the use of the national language in Taiwan.

The New Taipei City Main Library also encourages immigrant parents to lead their children to learn their own native language Besides, immigrant parents also shared the unique cultures of their hometowns through storytelling, enabling everyone to have a deeper understanding of cultural diversity.

New Taipei City Main Library planned a series of native language learning activities, including concerts, markets, dances, picture book exhibitions, talks, and sharing sessions by immigrant parents. It is hoped that both parents and children will be able to learn their own mother language through events.

In terms of academic education, immigrants’ mother languages will be included in the 12-year Basic Education.

Director Wang Jin Hua (王錦華) of the New Taipei City Main Library said that parents are encouraged to assist their children in learning native languages through parent-child reading. She welcomes everyone to listen to immigrant parents’ storytelling sessions.
