During the summer break, the Chung Hua University International Volunteer Group spent a month serving at the Amitofo Care Center in the Republic of Mozambique. To get goods from Taiwan, which is 10,000 kilometers distant, to the orphanage, teachers and pupils overcame a number of challenges. The service was initially only supposed to last two weeks, according to the head of Chung Hwa University's International Volunteer Group, but since flying back and forth would take four days, everyone asked for the service to be extended to three weeks so they could spend more time with the children. Teachers and students in the volunteer group organized art classes and scouting programs to educate kids life skills during the service period. They also gave the local kids a lot of stationery, educational supplies, and other things.

Very few volunteers have worked in Mozambique because of its rather isolated position in Africa, the effects of previous natural catastrophes and diseases, and these factors. The director of Amitofo Care Center was deeply touched by this visit by instructors and students from Chung Hua University, as it is the first time that student volunteers have ever been in Mozambique.
