According to The China Post, the Pearl S. Buck Foundation (賽珍珠基金會) has partnered up with Turkish-Taiwanese YouTuber Rifat (吳鳳) to generate funding and scholarships for Taiwan's poor new immigrant families.

The Pearl S. Buck Foundation has been holding the annual event since 2006 to help disadvantaged families celebrate the Lunar New Year by offering red envelopes, scholarships, and financial assistance.

Rifat, a well-known YouTuber, joined in this year. He delivered Turkish dried fruits to everyone who donated more than NT$3,000 to the fund. By doing so, he will be able to persuade the public to actively support worthwhile charitable activities like these.

As the COVID-19 Pandemic is still going strong around the globe, the advent of the new coronavirus variant Omicron is making many people recognize the value of spending time with family and staying in touch.

The Pearl S. Buck Foundation has decided to replace the former yearly tradition of dining together with meal coupons of comparable value to give family members an opportunity to gather during the Chinese New Year in 2022.

Additionally, red envelopes will be distributed to encourage students to continue their studies and work well in the coming year.

Chairman of the Pearl S. Buck Foundation, Yu Ying-fu (尤英夫), stated that donations have plummeted because of the pandemic, and that funds received for student aid services are significantly less than in prior years.

Yu pointed out that the COVID-19 pandemic has not only harmed the livelihoods of low-income families, but it has also led to the educational and resource challenges that vulnerable new immigrant children are facing.
