Taoyuan City Department of Labor opened academy for migrant workers to cultivate second professional skills. It held graduation ceremony on 20th and gave the migrant workers the study certificate for completing three months classes.
According to the statistics, there are about 711,001 migrant workers in Taiwan, whereas there are 114,777 migrant workers in Taoyuan City which is the highest population among the cities in Taiwan. The migrant workers academy offers 8 Chinese and English conversations classes, 2 financial education classes, 15 skillful classes, 25 classes of fitness knowledge and care giving services course.
The academy opened Chinese and English basic and advanced classes in four nationalities of the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand. There are also skillful courses divided into Taiwan food classes and life skills classes. It also cooperated with the Sports Administration i Taiwan program to open an additional fitness knowledge course, inviting professional fitness instructors to teach migrant workers the correct fitness knowledge to maintain healthy body.
The migrant workers from Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand mostly work in the factory and seldom have time to take languages and skillful courses. Thus, it caused the migrant workers are lack of communicative skill due to not understanding of Chinese enough. However, it is not easy to consider the differences of languages and degree of migrant workers from different nationalities, and the work of the factory between the time for study at the same time.
The instructors in Chinese and English class are very experienced in teaching. They design interesting learning activities in the course, helping many migrant workers without the basics of Chinese and English to know how to spell and speak daily conversation and vocabulary of work. It reduced the misunderstanding caused by language barriers and also cultivates professional skills of migrant workers.
