In the first half of the year, the National Immigration Agency (NIA) handled the “Overstay Voluntary Departure Program, Penalty Relief for Breach of Stay Conditions” (擴大逾期停(居)留外來人口自行到案專案). The deadline will be at the end of June. In addition to continuing to encourage overstay (illegal) foreigners in Taiwan to self-report, NIA also increases the intensive of investigations, demonstrates the positive actions of immigration law enforcement. On June 15, a joint investigation of foreign population gathering hotspots in the country was launched, including construction sites, foreign stores, food and beverage shops etc. This time, a total of 173 investigation places were conducted, 413 illegal migrants and 118 illegal employers and agency were seized.
After the investigations in May, NIA once again conduct joint investigations nationwide on June 15. This operation seized 413 illegal migrants, including 246 Vietnamese and 130 Indonesian. The premises were mainly on construction sites, restaurants, factories and migrant worker dormitories.
The Director of NIA, Qiu Feng-guang (邱豐光) reminded that the self-reported program will be until at the end of June, illegal migrants must grasp the last chance. After June 30, NIA will continue to implement intensive and comprehensive investigations, and will also promote the aggravating relevant punishments to effectively reduce the number of overstayed residents in Taiwan, showing the government's determination to maintain social security and strengthen immigration law enforcement.
