There is a group of foreign crew members from Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam devoting to Taiwan's fishery at the port of Nanfangao in Yilan. To express their appreciation and concern, the Fisheries Agency, the Coast Guard Administration, the Yilan County Government, and the Suao Fishery worked together to hold a grand event for foreign crew members to have fun at the port of Nanfangao.
Apart from a barbeque in this event, there was also a stage of karaoke for them to sing loudly. There was no distinction between the performers and the audience, and everyone would get to know each other through interacting and communicating and experience different cultures. The Fisheries Agency issued eco-friendly small bags with scarfs and soaps inside to express their gratitude to the contribution made by those foreign crew members. Besides, a booklet of daily life's conversations with four languages and an advocacy card for foreign fishermen is the expectation that they could understand their rights and Taiwan's law. Moreover, the Suao Fishery also prepared a lottery game providing clothes, razors, quilts, soaps, sleeping bags, and bath towels...etc.
Deputy Minister of the Fisheries Agency Wang Zhengfang emphasized that foreign crew members are our important coworkers at sea area when delivering the speech and asked ships' owners to reinforce their care for foreign fishermen. If any fisherman encountered improper treatments, please call 1955 (Counseling and Protection Hotline for Foreign Workers) or ask for the Fisheries Agency's help.
