Due to the effects of the epidemic and a decline in foreign visitors, Jiufen, which used to be ranked as the top must-see site in Taiwan, has remained silent for three years. The New Taipei City Government held the "Jiufen Red Lantern Festival" for the first time, featuring the customary local practice of holding a torch to patrol the mountain to pray for blessings and connecting several well-known scenic spots in Jiufen with the Red Lantern Festival. This was done in an effort to welcome more foreign tourists and Taiwanese tourists to Jiufen once again.

The Tourism and Travel Department, New Taipei City Government will set up lantern art installations for tourists to snap pictures with in Wufankeng Park (五番坑公園), Jinshanyan (金山岩), Shengping Theater(昇平戲院), and all along Jiufen Old Street in order to highlight the distinctive qualities of regional red lanterns. From now on, through March, 26th the art works will be illuminated every night from 6 to 10 p.m.

Up through March 26th, Jiufen Red Lantern Festival will be taking place. Free blessing cards will be given out by the Jiufen Visitor Center, allowing visitors to jot down their wishes and blessings and then hang them in the park along Shuqi Road and Wufankeng Park. The occasion works with several Jiufen stores to launch a "New Taipei Coin" discount scheme. To acquire a 100-point voucher that can be used in Jiufen cooperative stores, simply scan the event's QR Code (one must firstly download the New Taipei Mobile Payment App). The quota is only set at 4,000, so act quickly while supplies last!
