The Chimei Museum's yearly exhibition, "Outside the Box!" (跳出格子吧!機器X材料X藝術超展開) encourages visitors to think outside the box by planning four major exhibition areas and involving eight artists from six different countries in its creation. From the visitors' point of view, this exhibition enables them to appreciate typewriters, lathes, sewing machines, and other innovations from various historical periods. The exhibition will last until February 29, 2024.

James Cook, a British artist who is featured in this exhibition, is skilled at painting using vintage typewriters. He creates a variety of images using letters and symbols, such as Queen Elizabeth II of England, London street sceneries, etc., by typing precisely and repeatedly.

Along with exhibiting sewing machines from various eras, including hand crank and pedal models, the sewing machine section also featured musical instruments made out of sewing machines by artist QuestionMark (應奇軒), a Taiwanese DJ champion. According to QuestionMark, anything that can produce sound has the potential to be used as a musical instrument.

Regarding the lathe, the exhibitiom features furniture from Sebastian Brajkovic, a Dutch artist, including Royal Chairs, tables, lamps, and others, in addition to providing a brief history of the lathe.

This exhibition features over 100 exhibits as well as cultural artifacts, works of art, manuscripts, historical papers, and videos. Visitors may enjoy how artists use machinery with contemporary art in addition to recalling the beauty of machinery in the past.
