MOI Promotes Citizen Digital Certificate Verified on Mobile Phone

People need to use citizen digital certificate depend on card reader in the past. However, as the Internet generation comes, MOI proposed to use citizen digital certificate on cell phone. Users only need to download apps on cell phone and verified by biological identification such as fingerprints and facial indemnification to apply for governmental services by cell phone.

MOI stated that it launched the service of TAIWAN FidO Digital Identification which is a safe and convenient way to log in citizen digital certificate after registration, the mobile phone can store biological features of users such as fingerprints or facial characteristics in the mobile device to verify identification, users can log in after successful verification and use governmental services. In order to ensure the safety of personal privacy, it only supports mobile phones with biological identification such as fingerprints or facial identification in the first stage.

People must download the app “T-FidO” on their mobile phone for the first time. Then, use the computer to log in to the Taiwan Digital Identity Identification Platform to log in with citizen digital certificate. It will display the exclusive QR code on the computer, and then the users can scan the QR code on the cell phone. After that, it completed the mobile phone binding with citizen digital certificate. Then, the users can easily log in the governmental website to apply for different services with the app T-FidO on cell phone without card reader, account and password.

Th payment of land tax for November has been opened to use the verification of citizen digital certificate by cell phone, and there are other online application projects will be opened in the future. For example, Ministry of Finance is also expected to allow the users to use this service to pay income tax in May next year, providing another choice for people to inquire and pay taxes.

MOI emphasized that the government will not collect the citizen’s biological data. The system only uses the facial characteristics or fingerprint that the users already stored in the mobile phone to confirm the identity, and then will start the follow-up verification, so citizens can be at ease with using the new verification system on cell phone.
