On September 17, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced eight new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the eight new cases, two are domestic and the other six are imported. The CECC reported no deaths today.

Regarding the two new domestic cases, Case #16226 is an over 70-year-old female. She sought medical attention for other reasons and was tested for COVID-19 on September 15. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on September 17. Case #16227 is an over 20-year-old female. She was tested for COVID-19 on September 15 because she needed to accompany a patient. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on September 17.

Regarding the six new imported cases, they are three men and three women, aged between 20 to 69 years old. They arrived in Taiwan from the US (two cases), Indonesia (two cases), Lithuania, and Malaysia. They arrived between September 3 and September 15.

The CECC reported that a total of 3,104,233 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 3,086,845. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 16,123 cases. Of the 16,123 confirmed cases, 1,494 are imported; 14,575 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 110 cases have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 839 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 839 deaths, 829 are from domestic cases and the other 10 are from imported cases.
