CECC confirms 6 more imported case; cases arrive in Taiwan from the US, Myanmar, Indonesia, Ethiopia, and Bangladesh
On March 31, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced six new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those six new cases arrived in Taiwan from the United States (Case #1026), Myanmar (Case #1027), Indonesia (Case #1028 and Case #1029), Ethiopia (Case #1030), and Bangladesh (Case #1031).
Case #1026 is a Taiwanese man in his 70s. The Taiwanese man returned to Taiwan from the United States on January 3. He didn't experience any symptoms while he was in Taiwan. As he planned to leave Taiwan again, he visited the hospital to take a self-paid test on March 29. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on March 31 (the CT value was 31; he was given tests the next day, and he had a CT value of 36, and he tested positive for both IgM and IgG antibodies).
Case #1027 is an over 30-year-old man from Myanmar. He came to Taiwan to work as a fisherman on March 14. After completing the quarantine period, he visited the hospital to take a self-paid test on March 29. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on March 31.
Case #1028 and Case #1029 are two Indonesian men in their 20s. They came to Taiwan to work as fishermen on March 4. The two fishermen took COVID-19 tests on March 17 and March 24, and the test results all came back negative. Because they were later identified as close contacts of Cases #1015-1019, the company they worked for arranged for them to take self-paid tests on March 29. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the cases on March 31 (the CT values were 34 and 31, respectively, while they are awaiting antibody test results). The two fishermen didn't experience any symptoms during their stay in Taiwan.

The Taiwanese man stayed at a group quarantine facility after entry. He was given another COVID-19 test on March 30. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on March 31 (the CT value was 31, and he is awaiting his antibody test result).
Case #1031 is an over 20-year-old female from Bangladesh. The Bangladeshi woman traveled to Taiwan for studies on March 26. She experienced a cough on March 28. The health authority then arranged for her to seek medical attention and undergo testing. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on March 31 (the CT value was 18).
The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 189,458 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 187,640.
