The government has announced a variety of new measures that will take effect on June 1st, including modifications to the summer power rates, new rules for the wearing of masks, Young Adult Culture Vouchers, NT$500 Youth Sports Vouchers, etc. Taiwan Immigrants’ Global News Network has put together a carefully curated pack of information for new immigrants.

1. The start of summer electricity rates

According to Taiwan Power Company, for power bills greater than 120 kWh, the adjustment range will be between 13% and 28% for the summer electricity tariff adjustment that will be in effect starting on June 1. The average monthly power price for a home increase by roughly NT$ 479 per year due to the average monthly increase in electricity use, which in summer jumps to 428 kWh per household.

2. New rules for the wearing of masks

The wearing of masks is no longer required when using the previously permitted modes of transportation, taking ambulances, entering and exiting long-term care facilities, facilities serving the physically and mentally disabled, facilities serving children and adolescents, etc. However, masks are still required wearing at healthcare facilities like hospitals and the Ministry of Health and Welfare, etc. Individuals who break the rules risk paying a fine of between 3,000 and 15,000 NTD.

3. Monthly transport pass for Northern Taiwan (Keelung, Taipei, New Taipei City, Taoyuan)

On June 15, the NT$1200 monthly transport pass for Keelung, Taipei, New Taipei City, and Taoyuan will be on sale, and on July 1 it will be officially usable. With the EasyCards, users can use the ticket counter or the automatic top-up machines to purchase a monthly transport pass.

4. Clunkers trade-in incentive

a priority to replace obsolete automobiles with new ones. The subsidy will be raised to 16,000 NTD as of June 1. A maximum of 19,100 NYD can be given to those whose automobiles are registered in Hsinchu County/City and Miaoli. The government expects to raise replacement readiness among people, lessen air pollution, and safeguard the environment,

5. NT$500 Youth Sports Vouchers (青春動滋券)

Every year, the Sports Administration of the Ministry of Education gives out NT$500 Youth Sports Vouchers (青春動滋券) to young people aged 16 to 22 who have Taiwanese household registration in an effort to promote youth participation in sports and appreciation of sporting events. From June 1 through the end of the year, eligible individuals can collect it on the website using electronic wallets that can be used for consumption in the sports business.

6. Young Adult Culture Vouchers (文化成年禮金)

The Young Adult Culture Vouchers (文化成年禮金) policy has been introduced by the Ministry of Culture, aiming to provide recipients between the ages of 18 and 21 who are citizens of Republic of China (Taiwan) citizens or other qualifying foreigners with a NT$1,200 Young Adult Culture Vouchers. With the "Culture Points" APP, which requires registration and identity verification and can be downloaded starting on June 6 and used at a variety of art and cultural exhibitions around Taiwan, young people will have more possibilities to engage with literature and the arts.

7. NT$30,000 mortgage subsidy

A “Support Project for Self-use Residential Loan Owners Below the Middle Class”

programme will be put into place to subsidize home loans for people who are below the middle class. From June 1 through the end of the year, applications will be accepted. An estimated 550,000 families will be subsidized from this. The first round of reviews will be completed at the earliest in early July, and those who pass will be eligible to receive a 30,000 NTD mortgage support fund.

The loan project is only accessible through the official website of the Construction and Planning Agency, Ministry of the Interior. The Minister, Ministry of the Interior stressed in particular that there will be no SMS, email, or phone notification during the application process because it is entirely online. Please be cautious to avoid fraud.
