Chiayi- The new second generation overcomes physical disabilities and wins the Presidential Education Award.

The Ministry of Education has recently announced the winner of the Presidential Education Award. Jane Cuifeng from Dapu High School of Chiayi County has become Dapu Township’s  first citizen to receive Presidential Education Award. As the second generation of a Vietnamese new resident, she did not limited herself due to the family difficulties but overcame her physical disabilities and became a Tuba player of the school’s band.

When she was in grade two, Jane Cuifeng’s father was sent to a nursing home after suffering from a cold. The family’s economy relied solely on her mother and grandmother with their income from collecting tea every day. As a single daughter at home, she learned to be independent by getting up early and doing household chores to share the work with her mother.

Jian Cuifeng was born with congenital ears, leading to poor hearing ability. Despite the difficulties, she has strived to become a Tuba player of the school’s ban. Besides, she has completed the Presidential Education Award application on her own, including a  brief introduction and other written materials. In the end, she has successfully impressed the judges and won the award.

In the near future, she might leave the family in Taipo to study about nursing. Although she did not have the heart to go, she showed a firm and determined attitude towards future.

Jian Cuifeng said that she hoped to become an excellent nurse in the future and serve more people who need help.

Fan Shi Taixia, chairwoman of the Chiayi County New Residents Home Association, awarded the scholarship to Cui Feng in the name of the association. On the same day, Lin Binghuang, director of the Chiayi County Service Station, also gave other necessary documents to Cui Feng so that she could apply for the "New Residents Scholarship". In this way, she was able to get more support from the society and have more courage to continue to work hard for a brighter future.
