Starting from 2025, Foreign Language Assistance in Power Distribution and Culinary Certification Exams

To assist new residents, overseas students, and senior migrant workers in obtaining technical certification, the Ministry of Labor has planned to add foreign language support, including English, Thai, Vietnamese, and Indonesian, to the existing 32 technical certification categories and 7 newly added categories from 2025. Considering the certification needs of senior migrant workers in power distribution for Taipower’s external projects, new categories such as "Power Distribution Line Repair," "Power Distribution Cable Repair," "Underground Transmission Cable Repair," and "Overhead Transmission Line Repair" will be added. Additionally, "Chinese Cuisine Preparation," "Western Cuisine Preparation," and "Food Preparation" will be included specifically for the culinary industry. This policy will make it easier for new residents to obtain relevant certifications and enhance workplace competitiveness.

Chiayi District Prosecutor’s Office and Immigration Agency Jointly Protect New Residents’ Property Safety

The Chiayi District Prosecutor’s Office, along with the Chiayi County Service Station of the Immigration Agency, recently organized a family education event for new residents, focusing on fraud prevention. The event introduced new residents to common types of scams, including fake romance, fake job recruitment, impersonation of public officials, fake online shopping, and fake lottery notifications. These scammers often use persuasive techniques and exploit human weaknesses to deceive victims, leading to financial losses. New residents are advised to remain highly vigilant, avoid making withdrawals, remittances, or lending accounts without caution, and are encouraged to call the anti-fraud hotline at 165 if they encounter suspicious situations.

Shanlinxi Welcomes Early Autumn with Colorful Maple and Ginkgo Leaves

In Nantou County’s Shanlinxi Forest Recreation Area, around 3,000 green maples, 1,000 purple-leaved maples, and 800 sweetgum trees have been planted. Due to recent low temperatures and ample rainfall, many trees have already begun to turn red since early this month. Currently, the red hues of various maple trees are attracting visitors to the mountains to enjoy the beauty of autumn colors. Additionally, the ginkgo trees surrounding Ginkgo Lake have taken on a vibrant golden color, creating a stunning contrast with the surrounding greenery and reflecting beautifully on the lake’s surface. Strolling through the park, visitors find themselves captivated by the scenery, and early November is expected to be the peak season for viewing the maples and ginkgo.

Do Mushrooms Need Washing Before Cooking?

With the impact of recent typhoons, the price of leafy vegetables has risen, leading many consumers to opt for more stable-priced mushroom products. This has raised questions about whether mushrooms need to be washed before cooking. According to the Agricultural and Food Agency, most mushrooms, such as enoki, king oyster, shimeji, and white button mushrooms, are cultivated in sterile space bags or bottles without the use of chemicals. Therefore, it is only necessary to remove any attached wood particles and cut off the roots; no additional washing is required, and they can be cooked directly. For mushrooms like shiitake and wood ear, which are grown in semi-open environments, a quick rinse with clean water is recommended to remove dust. Avoid soaking them for extended periods to preserve their optimal flavor.
