Children Experienced the NIA Officers’ Role Parts to Cultivate the International Perspective

Today (July 17), the Immigration Department (NIA) organized the “Little Immigration Officers Visiting Experience”. About 80 children are placed to learn about the NIA officers’ role parts. The Head of the NIA Chiu Feng-kuang (邱豐光) gave the certificate rewards for the little immigration officers. These little officers dressed up as same as the real immigrant official officers, carefully followed the instructions from the immigration officers, learned and experienced various daily works of the immigration officers.

In order to increase children’s understanding and the flow of safety management of the immigration officers work, the NIA on July 17 and 18 specially set up 2 days “Little Immigration Officers Visiting Experience”. This activity is divided into 8 sessions. 80 seats were full as it is set up during the summer vacation. Today’s event was very interesting, the children could interact with the excellent immigration officers, and they even made a great job, including experienced the registration for the automatic customs clearance (e-Gate).

Sarah and Hannah are twins and their father is a new resident from the United States. He became the highlight of the scene, since everyone was exclaimed as soon as he appeared. During the registration time, they were asked, when they grew up later, will they willing to become the immigration officer, service the expatriates like their Dad? Two of them said “yes” together!

The two sisters happily said that the event experience was great and fun. Their father currently is working as an engineer in Taiwan. He said that in all the countries, immigration matters are sacred and inviolable. This time, when he heard about the activities of the NIA, in order to cultivate the daughters’ understanding of the working place and international perspective, he registered it in advance.

Li Xinyu (李欣昱) is the new second generation. Her mother is a new resident from Vietnam who is working in the Translation Department of the NIA. She has an interest in work of the NIA, want to know more about the work of the immigration officers through this event. Li Xinyu said that after putting on the uniform, she feels deeply that she is an immigration officer who can help many people from different countries.

In his speech, the Head of the NIA Chiu Feng-kuang stated that the working part of the NIA is very diverse. In these recent years, it has an expatriate secretary, new resident counselors, airports and sea ports inspection, illegal workers transfer inspections, etc. the performances quite good. The new residents’ children have the language advantage, looking forward them to join the NIA and become the talent of Taiwan. Through the experience as a little immigration officers, the children know that there is these kind of job, to be their direction of the efforts.

Chiu Feng-kuang stressed that in order to have a good exchange with other countries, the NIA set up special examination with foreign liberal arts subjects (English, Japanese, Spanish, French, Korean, Portuguese, Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesian, German, Russian). For 7 years, total of 880 special immigration official officers have been recruited. Welcome all the new residents, new second generations, and local people to take the exam, using the language advantages in the future life and working place to let Taiwan being known in the world.
