In the 2021 International Physics Olympiad (2021國際物理奧林匹亞競賽) hosted by Lithuania, 4 high school graduates from Taiwan emerged from 76 countries and 368 contestants to win the world gold medal. In addition, the 2021 International Biology Olympiad (2021國際生物奧林匹亞競賽) hosted by Portugal also ended with Taiwan’s 4 contestants winning the gold medal over 304 students from 76 countries.

The 51st International Physics Olympiad in 2021 was hosted by Lithuania. This year’s competition was an online competition. The 5 Taiwanese national players include the private Ching Cheng High School Mou Chung-Hsi (牟宗晞), the National Taichung No. 1 High School Lai Yu-hung (賴禹宏), the National Hualien High School Li Yi-kuan (李逸寬), and the Taipei City Chien Kuo High School Tsai Chie-ta (蔡杰達), the four won 4 gold medals, and the other 1 silver medal was won by Tu Kai-Hsiang (凃凱翔) from Chien Kuo Middle School.
The 32nd International Biology Olympiad in 2021 was hosted by Portugal. This year, due to the epidemic, it was also held online. The Taiwanese participants include Lin Tsung-yi (林宗毅), a student from the Junior High Division of the Affiliated Senior High School of National Taiwan Normal University (師大附中), Lin Wei-chen (林威辰), from Chien Kuo Middle School, and Chi Liang-yun (杞亮昀) and Wu Chia-kai (吳家愷), students from Chiayi High School. All of them won gold medals.

According to the Ministry of Education (MOE, 教育部), to reward the students for their outstanding performance, there are "Regulations Governing Academic Advancement Incentives for Students with Great Performance in International Mathematics or Science Olympiads and International Science Exhibitions" (參加國際數理學科奧林匹亞競賽及國際科學展覽成績優良學生升學優待辦法). Students who win gold, silver or bronze medals in the competition may be recommended to the undergraduate departments of science in universities and colleges. Or recommended to the other departments of universities and colleges.

In addition, those who won gold, silver, and bronze medals in the Olympiad will receive NT$200,000, 100,000, and 50,000 scholarships from the MOE, respectively, but for those who have won two or more awards in the same discipline or in different disciplines in the same year, the highest prized scholarship will be given.
