“Taiwan Michelin Guide” Unveiled: 49 Starred Restaurants Shine Internationally, Showcasing the Charm of Taiwanese Cuisine!

The seventh edition of the "Taiwan Michelin Guide" held its star-rated restaurant announcement press conference at the Taipei Marriott Hotel on August 27, unveiling 49 star-rated restaurants, including 37 in Taipei, 9 in Taichung, and 3 in Kaohsiung. These restaurants showcase the innovative charm of Taiwanese cuisine that blends diverse cultures with local ingredients, offering a new exploration experience for food lovers and international tourists.

This press conference was held at the same location as the first Michelin Guide announcement in Taiwan in 2017, witnessing the evolution and innovation of Taiwan’s mining industry. Deputy Minister of Transportation Lin Guoxian stated at the conference that Taiwan’s unique geographical environment fosters abundant ingredients, which through creative cuisine become an important medium for cultural exchange, reflecting the sustainable integration of environment and innovation.

This year’s "Taiwan Michelin Guide," along with the restaurants that maintained their one-star status from last year, currently has a total of 41 one-star restaurants (30 in Taipei, 8 in Taichung, and 3 in Kaohsiung). The two-star and three-star restaurants maintained their 2023 evaluation results. Notably, Taiwan has consecutively had young chefs winning the "Michelin Young Chef Award" for five years, with this year’s award going to Chef Chen Tingyu of Ayu. Xu Yunshan of Banpo won the "Michelin Service Award" for her outstanding performance in professional service. Zeng Yahui of Yuan Ji was honored with the "Michelin Sommelier Award" for her exquisite sommelier skills. Additionally, the "Michelin Green Star Restaurant Award" was awarded to EMBERS, Hao Yu, Little Tree Food, Mountain Sea House, Thomas Chien, and Yang Ming Spring, recognizing their contributions to culinary sustainability and environmental protection.

Director of the Tourism Bureau, Ministry of Transportation, Zhou Yonghui, pointed out that this year's Michelin Guide marks an important moment for Taiwanese cuisine's post-pandemic international exposure. The Tourism Bureau will align with Taiwan Tourism Brand 3.0, continuing global promotion in key markets through the "Taiwan Michelin Guide 2024" and related activities to attract international tourists to Taiwan, experience its beautiful scenery, creative vitality, and unique cuisine, creating new business opportunities for Taiwanese food and tourism.
