Yilan Government arranged a tour guide activity at the Kaiyuan Market(市場走讀活動 in Chinese).

A Yilan resident Fang Zi Wei, nicknamed “teenage grandpa,” was invited as a tourist guide by the Yilan Government.

Many educators participated in the tour.

By sharing the importance of cultural preservation, and inviting new ways to present old culture, Fang offered a new way to understand and learn about the traditional Taiwanese markets.

There were also many foreigners among the participants. Fang also introduces the features of Yilan in fluent English.

Led by Fang, the tour group visited Kaiyuan Market. Fang showed them different vendors in the market and introduced the local traditions.

Fang hopes that the educators could add more local information and knowledge into the course books so that the new generation can learn about local farm businesses.

People should give recognition to young people like Fang. The Yilan government mentions many young people choose to return to their hometown to preserve and restore the local traditional culture.

The Yilan government also encourages other young people to return to Yilan and start their businesses. They can create more stories on the land they grew up in.
