The 2024 Taitung Light Festival will illuminate the Zhiben area from October 25 to December 8. This year’s event brings together 10 groups of domestic and international artists, along with 50 local students, to co-create artworks inspired by Taitung’s natural light: dawn, moonlight, and starlight. The festival promises a touching feast of light and shadow art.
"Natural Light Zone" Theme Showcasing Dawn, Moonlight, and Starlight
The 2024 Taitung Light Festival is themed "Natural Light Zone." In Zhiben, a land renowned for its radiant dawn, shimmering moonlight, and romantic starlight, the festival presents 10 large-scale light installations. These pieces draw inspiration from Taitung’s natural elements, blending innovative technology with artistic techniques. Through light sculptures and interactive shadow art, the installations create a new landscape that fuses nature and culture, breathing life and energy into Zhiben Hot Spring Village.

Juge Design – Bright
The "Yongnan Bridge," spanning Zhiben Creek, is transformed into a spectacular light sculpture titled Bright, serving as the centerpiece of the festival. Drawing inspiration from Taitung’s mountains, sea, and sky, the dynamic light patterns blend butterfly imagery with sunrise seascapes, presenting a renewed and dazzling appearance under the night sky.
VJ Suave – Space Odyssey and Starry Zoo
Brazilian artist VJ Suave makes their Taitung Light Festival debut with Space Odyssey and Starry Zoo, co-created with local students. These works invite children to unleash their creativity, crafting their own "space animals" that dance beneath the stars. As night falls, these whimsical lights illuminate Zhiben’s walls and trees, sparking boundless imagination.
Taihiro Chida – Tracks of Light
Japanese artist Taihiro Chida creates an immersive experience with white nylon threads randomly woven into a space, projecting moving beams of light that simulate a meteor shower. The installation explores the pure nature of light, reshaping spatial perception.
404 N.F – 2224 Slices
Taiwanese artist group 404 N.F envisions a future landscape in 2224 Slices, capturing fleeting moments and storing them in display cases. The artwork reflects the eventual dominance of human-made objects over nature, redefined as part of the geological era.
Ding Chi Architects x Yeh Guang Studio – Mountain and Ocean Stage
Set on Zhiben’s grassland, this outdoor theater features curved metal chairs that mimic rising mountains and waves. Incorporating natural elements like river streams and thermal mist, the installation creates a mesmerizing stage for performances.

Yi You Ge Zhao – Towards Warmth
This piece symbolizes life’s movement toward warmth, reflecting how creatures migrate toward favorable environments. Using twisting vines and glowing lights, the artwork captures the unique charm of Austronesian culture, radiating warmth and healing.
Wu Chia-Hsun x Fan Ching Design – Light Bath · Light Encounter
This serene piece invites visitors to immerse themselves in nature's light, experiencing shifting shadows under the sun and a tranquil glow under moonlight.
Yu Yu Art Studio – Gaps: Toward the Light
Capturing Taitung’s daily sunrise over the Pacific, this installation connects land and life with flowing light lines, showcasing Taitung’s radiant dawn visible only at night.
Original Organic Creation – Falling Rain
Simulating raindrops on water, Falling Rain reflects the transformative power of light, creating rippling patterns that mirror Taitung’s celestial beauty.
Opening Events and Activities
During the opening period, the festival will feature the "Time Traveler Market," showcasing local cuisine and handmade goods, along with limited-edition lantern giveaways. Visitors can also enjoy a stargazing cinema, cultural workshops, and more.
