Following a Korean tourist's drowning in the resort's swimming pool on November 13, Espacio Resort, which is situated in Sitio Daorong in Barangay Danao, was forced to close. According to police accounts, South Korean swimmer Yongjun Cho, 41, was discovered unconscious in the deepest section of the pool after going for a swim with his family.

However, Karen Valiente, the officer in charge of Espacio, claimed that no lifeguard was on duty during the event in a letter to Arcay dated November 22.
According to Valiente, the management was implementing remedial measures to stop such events in the future, like employing a new lifeguard with a license and enhancing surveillance by strategically placing more CCTV cameras around the pool area to increase monitoring and respond quickly to any hazards.
