It was the hottest June in the history of observation. In the past 16 months, the temperature has been hotter than the average of the same month in previous years.

In addition to the heat, Alaska is still dry this year than in previous years. Last month's rainfall was 6% of the June average. As a result of the forest fires, the Anchorage Fire Department has even cancelled the National Day fireworks this year to prevent a fire.

The Alaska Center for Climate Assessment and Policy points out that Alaska is warming at twice the global average. Climate anomalies not only bring drought and heat, but also forest fires and sea warming, lead to a decline in air quality and ecological catastrophe that assault the health of residents and the fishery economy

The Alaska Center for Climate Assessment and Policy also pointed out that it was not be until May that the ice layer covering Alaska will melt completely, but the ice layer already disappear since March this year. The fire that occurred on June 5 has not been completely extinguished until now, and the smog continues to affect the densely populated Anchorage city.
