President Tsai reminds the public of three guidelines amid COVID-19 surge

As Taiwan has now confirmed clusters of local transmission, Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced to raise the epidemic warning level for the two cities to Level 3 and would strengthen related measures, effective from today to May 28.

People started panic buying necessary goods, such as toilet paper and instant noodles after the news came out.

President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) reassures the public there is sufficient food supplies and masks across Taiwan.

President Tsai mentions, “After more than a year of preparation, the country's anti-pandemic materials, civilian goods and raw materials are sufficient, and the stores are also operating as usual to replenish goods,” THE STRAITS TIME reports.

President Tsai hopes the public to stay alert but not panic during the escalation of the pandemic.

  • President Tsai also reminds people to follow the three guidelines below:
  • Daily Self-health Monitoring: monitor or watch for the symptoms of COVID-19 every day. And if you experience any COVID-19 symptoms, call 1992 disease prevention Hotline as soon as possible, do not go in without speaking to them by phone first.
  • Maintain social distance: avoid unnecessary activates and gatherings. And if you have to leave home, remember to wear a mask all the time and keep a distance of at least 1m from others.
  • Avoid panic buying: Taiwan has sufficient supplies, and major outlets will continue to replenish stocks for food and other goods. Shop when necessary, and shop according to your needs

According to TAIWAN TODAY, Tsai says that as long as the people remain calm, unified and vigilant, there is every reason to expect coronavirus will remain under control and Taiwan can pass through this challenging period in good shape.
