A large new study highlights the crucial role of fathers&rsquo mental health in a child&rsquos development. Published in JAMA Pediatrics, the research analyzed 84 global studies and found that paternal depression, anxiety, and stress-especially during the perinatal period-are linked to negative outcomes in children&rsquos social-emotional, cognitive, language, and physical development.
The associations were most significant during early childhood and postpartum, suggesting a father's mental state can directly influence child outcomes. Experts urge expanding perinatal care to include fathers, noting that supporting both parents is vital for healthy families.
