The Taiwan National Second-generation New Immigrant Singing Competition was staged last Saturday (May 1).
The Taiwan National Second-generation New Immigrant Singing Competition is a singing contest that provides a chance for the second-generation new immigrants to show their talent on stage.
The competition is organized by NIA in partnership with the Yixuan women and children Care Association (宜萱婦幼關懷協會). Director-General of NIA Zhong Jing-Kun showed up at the competition and showed support for the participants.
Contestants all showed their best performance on stage.
The NIA Global News for new immigrants reporter interviewed a unique group that participated in the competition. The group was formed by four generations of family members, includes a great grandmother, a grandmother, and a mother and a son.
Pan Jin-Xiu is the mother in the group, she is a new immigrant from Vietnam. Pan leads her team into the competition, and in the end, they received third place in the competition.
The great-grandmother is now 100 years old woman, but she still has a young voice.
Pan Jin-Xiu is from Vietnam, she has lived in Taiwan for 17 years since she was married in Taiwan. Pan couldn’t speak Chinese at first, but now, not only can she speak fluent Chinese, but she also speaks Taiwanese. Pan says she learned Taiwanese by watching the Taiwanese drama.
Pan mother-in-law mentions that Pan often presents Vietnamese cuisines on the Table. The mother and the great grandmother all like to be with Pan. They say that she has a wonderful personality, and life is happy with her aside.
Besides being a wonderful daughter-in-law, Pan Jin Xiu is also a great woman with her career. Pan is now a translator and an elementary school teacher who teaches Vietnam. She also spreads the Vietnamese culture in Taiwan at community activity events or senior centers.
Pan is happy that she can share the Vietnamese culture in Taiwan. “I even brought Ao Dai dresses from Vietnam to show it to everyone in Taiwan,” Pan says to the reporter.
The family also wore the Ao Dai dress on stage during the competition today. Pam mentions that the dresses were all handmade in Vietnam. She is happy to show everyone the traditional Vietnamese dress.
Pan Jin-Xiu also shared that her son and daughter are both able to speak Vietnamese. She is happy that her children can learn about the Vietnamese culture. Her little son Chen Rui Bin even sang a Vietnamese kid song for us.
Pan Jin-Xiu is thankful for the support and care from her Taiwanese family. Pan says that she is happy to be a new immigrant in Taiwan, and she will continue spreading the Vietnamese culture in Taiwan.
