As the Covid-19 pandemic greatly impacted the world, all countries call on their members of the public to practice self-health management, including handwashing and wearing a mask. In response to the SAVE LIVES: Clean Your Hands campaign, on a press conference on May 5, Commander Dr. Shih-Chung Chen (陳時中), Deputy Commander Tsung-Yen Chen (陳宗彥), the team of Dr. Shan-Chwen Chang (張上淳), the Taiwan CDC Director-General Chou Chih-haw (周志浩), and CECC spokesperson Jen-Hsiang Chuang (莊人祥) demonstrated the correct way to wash hands and reminded the public to protect Taiwan together.

The SAVE LIVES: Clean Your Hands annual global campaign, celebrated on May 5, was launched in 2009 by the WHO, the CECC stated. The date "5.5." symbolizes the human hands with the five fingers (five plus five), emphasizing hand hygiene.

Following the WHO's hand hygiene guidelines, Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has launched a hand hygiene program and strategies to improve Taiwan's hygiene education, the CECC pointed out. Additionally, CDC has long promoted hand hygiene to prevent potential infections at medical institutions.

As the pandemic has not greatly eased in Taiwan, the CECC called on members of the public again to practice self-health management, including keeping a distance, wearing a mask when taking public transportation, and washing hands for 5 moments (before eating, touching a baby, after blowing your nose, after using the toilet, and after seeking medical treatment) with 5 steps (wet, lather, scrub, rinse, dry) and 7 tips (rub your palms together, scrub the back of your hands thoroughly, scrub in between all fingers, scrub your fingers thoroughly, rub your thumb thoroughly, wash your fingertips thoroughly, and wash your wrists).
