Dreams Take Flight! Hualien New Resident Tao Shi Gui Establishes the “Vietnam Story House”
The Yilan County Service Station of the Immigration Office hosted a family education course, inviting new resident Tao Shi Gui from Vietnam, now living in Hualien, to share her inspiration for establishing the “Vietnam Story House” and her journey of gratitude towards Taiwan’s education. When Tao Shi Gui arrived in Taiwan 16 years ago, she couldn’t speak Chinese. Her motivation for founding the book house was to show appreciation for the guidance she received from her teachers back then. Through picture books and games, Tao aims to create a relaxed and enjoyable environment where children can learn language and culture. Currently, around 20 second-generation children attend the free Vietnamese language classes each week, with an additional 10 new residents learning Chinese. Tao hopes she can promote Taiwan’s cultural diversity through storytelling and language exchange.

The 2024 Guantian Water Chestnut Festival, themed "Love Water Chestnuts Forever," officially launched on October 26 at the Huluping Nature Eco Park. The event also features nostalgic guided tours, water chestnut games, water chestnut carbon crafts, and creative water chestnut cuisine, enriching the festival experience and supporting local industry development.

Easy Banana Pound Cake with a Rice Cooker
The Taiwan Agriculture and Food Agency recently shared on its official Facebook page a recipe for making banana pound cake using a rice cooker, showcasing the versatility of bananas as a dessert ingredient. This recipe is easy to follow and requires only a few common ingredients: 300 grams of bananas, 200 grams of low-gluten flour, 3 eggs, 50 grams of fresh milk, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, 1.5 tablespoons of sugar, 1 tablespoon of oil, and 1 teaspoon of salt. First, peel and mash the bananas. Then sift the low-gluten flour and mix it with the other ingredients until well combined. Pour the batter into the rice cooker’s inner pot, which has been greased. Add two cups of water to the outer pot, and once the rice cooker switches to "keep warm," let it sit for an additional 10 minutes. Finally, insert a chopstick into the cake; if it comes out clean, the cake is done. If it’s still undercooked, add one more cup of water and continue steaming. This simple recipe is easy to make at home—give it a try!
