Overview of Work and Residency Regulations for Foreign Students in Taiwan

The National Immigration Agency’s Taipei Service Station recently attended a university orientation workshop for international students, helping them understand their residency rights and how to integrate into Taiwan. Immigration Officer Zhao Xiangyi explained that the application for student residency is now fully available online. Students can submit their applications through the NIA system, making the process convenient and efficient. According to amendments to the Immigration Act, residency renewal can be applied for three months before the expiration date. Late fines have been raised to between NT$10,000 and NT$50,000, and the maximum stay in Taiwan can be extended up to seven years. In addition, foreign students who wish to work must apply for a work permit, and their working hours cannot exceed 20 hours per week, excluding winter and summer vacations. Illegal employment is strictly prohibited.

Pingtung’s New Immigrant Consultation Center Established, Providing Legal and Entrepreneurship Information

The Democratic Progressive Party's New Immigrant Affairs Department and Legislator Chung Chia-Pin collaborated to establish Taiwan's first "DPP New Immigrant Consultation Center" on September 19, located at the "Chong Cafe Citizen Hall" in Pingtung. The center provides legal consultation, shared space, and entrepreneurial guidance for new immigrants. It also features a "Muslim-Friendly Restroom" to accommodate the needs of Muslim immigrants. New residents can use the consultation center's space for activities and receive support for employment or entrepreneurship. If they encounter difficulties, they are encouraged to seek help at the consultation center.

"Wax Bottle Candy" Trend Hits Taiwan! Potential Food Safety Concerns

Recently, the "Wax Bottle Candy," a popular snack in Chinese social media, has gained popularity due to its colorful appearance and various patterns. Promoted by internet influencers, it has become a favorite among consumers. Manufacturers claim the outer layer is made of beeswax, and the inside is filled with syrup or jam, giving it a unique texture. However, Taiwan's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warns that the recent decrease in honey production has led to a rise in natural beeswax prices, making it unlikely that these products use genuine beeswax. Such products may contain harmful colorants or industrial wax, posing health risks. The FDA urges consumers to avoid eating food products that have not passed FDA inspections. If illegal sales are discovered, they can be reported to the local health bureau.

Don't Let Your Children Become Overweight! 3 Tips to Protect Children's Healthy Body Shape

Children's weight has always been a concern for parents. Research shows that childhood obesity is not just a temporary issue; most children find it difficult to overcome obesity even as they grow up. To help children maintain a healthy body shape, experts recommend three key tips. First, choose natural, whole, and minimally processed foods, such as whole grains, pumpkins, and dark green vegetables, to ensure children eat nutritious and healthy meals. Second, reduce their intake of sugary drinks, opting for plain water instead. You can also add lemon slices, dried fruits, or mint leaves to enhance the flavor. Third, encourage more outdoor activities or indoor exercises to reduce sedentary time and keep children's bodies healthy and full of energy.
