The Taoyuan Land Art Festival is back! This time, it takes place at the Dayuan Xihai Leisure Agriculture Area, where local farmers have created massive painted totems spanning 4 hectares of rice fields. Originally scheduled from October 5th to October 20th, the "Painted Rice Fields and Flower Sea Party" has been postponed to October 10th due to the arrival of Typhoon Sanba and preparation work considerations, as announced by the Taoyuan City Agriculture Bureau.
The "Painted Rice Fields and Flower Sea Party" features not only radish babies, amaryllis, and watermelon totems on the fields, but also Taoyuan’s mascots Tao-Tao and Yuan-Ge, as well as hidden Easter egg patterns waiting to be discovered! The exhibition area, located under the flight path of Taoyuan Airport, is filled with a magnificent sea of sunflowers and cosmos flowers, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the beauty of the countryside.
This year’s painted rice field event is not just a static display but also includes a range of dynamic activities. On October 10th, the opening day, the renowned "Body Expression Theater" will present a performance titled "Wings of Hope," combining music, dance, and percussion to transform the rice fields into a stunning stage. On the same day, the National Day Party will feature magical bubbles and circus stunts, bringing joy to both children and adults. These activities will continue every weekend, including the "Table on the Dayuan Rice Field" event on October 12th and 13th, and the "Dayuan Farmers’ Sweet Potato Festival" on October 19th, where visitors can enjoy the original flavors of the farm while having fun.
In addition to the painted rice fields, local farmers in Taoyuan have set up themed photo spots such as the "Caterpillar Pavilion" and the "Fruit and Vegetable Garden Party." From adorable fruits and vegetables to giant butterflies and hot air balloons, every corner is a great place for photos. The entire exhibition area is also filled with National Day elements, including hundreds of flag-themed pinwheels and plum blossom-shaped flower carpets, creating a lively festive atmosphere as you stroll through the fields. Want to experience more farm activities firsthand? There are also events like radish picking, DIY tea sachet and fragrance bag making, and traditional kiln cooking, ensuring that you’ll have an unforgettable experience! The "Flower Fun in Zhongli Agricultural Tour" showcases a beautiful sea of sunflowers and cosmos flowers for the first time, covering an area of approximately 0.2 hectares (around 600 ping). Besides the painted rice fields in Dayuan Xihai, Zhongli’s Shandong Community is simultaneously hosting the "Flower Fun in Zhongli Agricultural Tour," showcasing a spectacular sea of sunflowers and cosmos flowers. This dual-exhibition event complements each other perfectly, whether it’s the Fish and Shrimp Carnival at the top-notch Xihai farm or the "Herbal Love" at He Chun Flower, each stop is a surprising agricultural experience. The farmers have cleverly integrated local resources, allowing visitors to not only enjoy the scenery but also engage in a variety of interactive farm activities, making it feel like a countryside party filled with natural charm.
Dayuan Xihai and Zhongli Shandong Community not only offer rich landscapes but are also easily accessible. Both sites are just a 10-minute drive from the Taoyuan High-Speed Rail Station. To accommodate visitors, the Taoyuan City Government has set up free shuttle bus services on weekends, making it convenient to reach the event venues whether from the A18 Taoyuan HSR Station or the A19 Taoyuan Sports Park Station. During the event weekends, shuttle buses will travel between the main parking lots and the dual exhibition areas, ensuring smooth transportation for participants.
Director Chen Guan-Yi of the Taoyuan Agriculture Bureau emphasized that the main features of Dayuan Xihai Leisure Agriculture Area and Zhongli Shandong Community are their convenient transportation and unique geographical location under the flight paths. This year’s event introduces the concept of dual exhibition areas to allow more people to experience the natural beauty of Taoyuan. Chen also reminded the public that due to the large crowds attracted annually by the flower festival at Xihai, some roads in the surrounding area will be subject to traffic control during the event. Visitors are encouraged to use public transportation to enjoy a carefree countryside tour. The Largest in Taiwan! The Painted Rice Fields are Right Here at Xihai.
