In 2021, the Tainan City Brigade received a request for assistance from the Shanhua Holy Family Catholic Church. A Vietnamese migrant worker A-He, who has lost contact with his owner, was caught by the police. And he was feeling very uncomfortable during his stay in the police station.
It turned out that A-He had to go to the hospital for immediate pain relief. Afterward, A-He was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer. The Tainan City Brigade tried their best to arrange a plane seat for A-He to travel back to Vietnam to meet his family. Unfortunately, A-He’s health condition went from bad to worse. Unfortunately, A-He passed away when he got to the hospital.
After hearing the unfortunate news, the Tainan City Brigade and the Shanhua Holy Family Catholic Church decided to arrange a funeral for A-He in Taiwan. They started to raise money for A-He. Many people from the public and different organizations all contributed money to the funeral.
A-He came to Taiwan to earn more money for his family. A-He had a family with four children (youngest only nine months) in Vietnam. However, when he got to Taiwan, he couldn't make extra money while working due to the coronavirus pandemic. Without any choice, A-He had to leave and work illegally, because he wanted to make as much money as possible.
A-He did feel the pain signals from his body. Yet A-he was also afraid to go see a doctor because he is aware that he is an illegal worker in Taiwan.
And after his diagnosis, the Tainan City Brigade hoped to help A-he return to Vietnam as soon as possible. But flights were decreased due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In the end, A-He passed away in the hospital.
A-he’s brother, also working in Taiwan, received A-he’s cremated ashes with tears in his eyes. He said that his brother comes to Taiwan to make money to support his family. His brother had his family in mind every single moment, even when he was sick and lying on the hospital bed. His last wish was to meet his wife and children.
Tainan City Brigade gave the donations to A-he’s brother, and A-he’s brother will bring A-He’s ashes and the donation back to Vietnam to his family.
