According to INQUIRER.NET, the Philippines has recorded 7,174 new COVID-19 cases on May 9, bringing the caseload to 1,101,990, the Department of Health (DOH) said.

Of the total number of cases, only 5.6 percent or 61,294 cases remain active, with most of the patients only exhibiting mild or even with no symptoms at 93.8 and 2.1 percent, respectively.

There are 9,197 new recoveries to bring the recovery count to 1,022,224, which is 92.8 percent of all cases.

There were also 204 new deaths that brought the country’s COVID-19 death toll to 18,472 or 1.68 percent of the caseload.

INQUIRER.NET adds, 13.9 percent of 46,878 tests performed yielded positive results.

The Health Department also reported that all laboratories were able to submit their data to the DOH’s COVID-19 Document Repository System.

The Philippines only ranked behind Indonesia in terms of COVID-19 cases in Southeast Asia with 1,709,762 cases, according to the latest data from the Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 tracker.

Global cases reached 157.7 million including 3.2 million deaths, the tracker showed.
