The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) announced on June 2 that six new cases of local dengue fever were reported in Sanmin District of Kaohsiung City. The location of the six confirmed cases was close to the local cases that were announced recently. It also shows that the dengue epidemic is highly location correlated.

The CDC pointed out that the six new cases of local dengue fever were three women and three men, aged between 40 and 70, living in Ding Jin Village (鼎金里) and Ding Xi Village (鼎西里) in Sanmin District, Kaohsiung City.

Due to the fact that the six new cases were in the vicinity of the home and the activity site of the local case in Ding Jin village that announced on May 29 and the distance between the homes was within 250 meters. It shows that the dengue epidemic is highly location correlated. The Health Bureau has targeted the area and conducts epidemic investigations, eliminate mosquito breeding sources, and strengthen local health education and medical institutions.

The CDC said that six new patients had no history of going abroad recently. They were treated after the onset of the disease from May 27 to 30. The dengue virus type 4 was confirmed by the test. Currently, six people are hospitalized in the mosquito isolation. The contact person has no suspected symptoms.

The CDC mentioned that in order to clarify the preventing the spread of the epidemic, Kaohsiung City Government has started emergency prevention work since May 30 and handled the "Dengue Fever Joint Prevention” on June 1. The city government mobilized more than 400 epidemic prevention personnel to vicinity of the case, the place of residence, the activity area and the surrounding areas and implemented high-risk field inspections, eliminate mosquito breeding sources and called on the public to cooperate with the government's various prevention and control measures to reduce the density of community vector mosquitoes.

According to the CDC, eight cases of local dengue fever have been reported in the country so far this year, they live in Kaohsiung City. In addition, there are 153 cases of overseas dengue. The infected areas are mainly Southeast Asian countries, including 55 cases from Indonesia and 32 cases from Vietnam. The number of overseas dengue cases is also the highest in the same period in the past 10 years.

The CDC reminded that there are still opportunities for rain in various parts of the country in the near future. The public should strengthen the inspection of the indoor and outdoor environment and remove the water storage container as soon as possible to avoid vector mosquito breeding. The public must also be alert. If there is a suspected dengue fever such as fever, headache, eye pain, muscle and joint pain, rash, etc. please seek medical care as soon as possible and inform the history of the activity.
