President Tsai expresses sincere condolences to those affected by the floods in Germany

According to the [Office of the President Republic of China (Taiwan)], in response to heavy rains that began during the night of July 14 (Central European Time) and led to massive flooding, severe damage, and casualties in the western German states of Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia, Presidential Office Spokesperson Xavier Chang (張惇涵) said on July 16 (Taipei time) that, on behalf of the people and government of Taiwan, President Tsai Ing-wen expressed her sincere concern to the people and government of Germany, and sent her condolences to the victims and their families.

Spokesperson Chang noted that Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) and Representative to Germany Jhy-wey Shieh (謝志偉) also conveyed their concern and condolences to the German government in the immediate aftermath of the disaster. President Tsai has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and our representative office in Germany to continue monitoring the situation and the progress of search and rescue efforts and ensure the safety of all Taiwanese expatriates in the country while providing necessary assistance.

According to the [Office of the President Republic of China (Taiwan)],  Spokesperson Chang said that the people of Taiwan enjoy an abiding friendship with the German people based on our countries' shared belief in democracy and freedom, and are deeply saddened by the losses that Germany has suffered in this natural disaster. Taiwan will continue to track developments and recovery efforts in affected areas while discussing potential opportunities for us to provide assistance.
