According to Manila is very special to me, says Anwar at end of two-day official visit | The Star, after a two-day official visit to the Philippines, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim hailed Manila, the nation's capital, as being very special to him.
Anwar wrote on Facebook on Thursday that the trip reminded him of his frequent visits to the city while he was a student. The Prime Minister remarked that Manila is really distinctive and is not a foreign place to him personally.
When Anwar was a student, he frequently traveled to Manila, and the University of the Philippines (UP) was a destination he had to see.
According to him, he traveled to UP to speak with friends about a variety of topics.
Anwar received the Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, from the UP earlier on Thursday at a ceremony conducted in the school's Villamor Hall.
Anwar received the honorary degree in recognition of his expertise in economics, democracy, freedom, governance, Islam and democracy, and the need for accountability, according to a statement released by the university.
1.Prospero E. De Vera III, the chair of the commission on higher education, and Angelo A. Jimenez, president of UP and co-chair of the UP Board of Regents, presented him with his degree.
Anwar landed in the Philippines on March 1 for a two-day official visit; this is his eighth trip to an Asean nation since being named the 10th Prime Minister of Malaysia in November of last year.
