At various times, Chinese immigrants have lived in large numbers in numerous Southeast Asian nations. As a result, the surrounding communities now have Chinese holidays and customs. While doing so, they will also start to acquire their own traits after integrating into the community's culture. Taiwan Immigrants’ Global News Network has sorted the unique characteristics of mooncakes in Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Indonesia with the approach of the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Thailand

There are a variety of traditional Thai mooncake tastes, including curry, durian, mangosteen, and others, in addition to the basic type "minced lotus and egg yolk" mooncakes that are well-liked by Chinese consumers. Many new tastes, including coffee, green tea, Japanese matcha red bean, chocolate pistachio, etc., have recently entered the market.

Vietnam

Mooncakes are categorized in several ways in Vietnam. For instance, the fillings are separated into salty, sweet, mixed, and other tastes, while the crust is divided into baked crust and soft crust. Vietnamese children celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival as Children's Day, therefore in addition to the customary round and square forms, there are also animal shapes like rabbits, pigs, and carps.

Malaysia

Cantonese-style mooncakes, which have thin crusts and rich contents, as well as delicate and embossed designs on the crusts, are traditionally the most popular mooncakes in Malaysia. The major tastes include minced lotus, bean paste, and sesame seeds. There are also mooncakes with distinctive regional flavors, such the "Iced Crust Durian Mooncake," which has the same icy texture as durian ice cream.

Indonesia

In terms of their typical flavors, Indonesian mooncakes may be split into two categories. One is a mooncake made in the style of Hong Kong, which includes salted egg yolk, minced lotus, and bean paste. The other is a mooncake known as "Tiong Ciu Pia," which is bigger in size and may be filled with a variety of ingredients, including chocolate, cheese, durian, jackfruit, pandan leaf milk, raisins, etc. There will also be a red seal applied.
