Recently, two foreign migrant workers from the Philippines have been to Fangshan Township and got lost due to the unfamiliarity with the local geography. Fortunately, the police officers of the Fangliao Branch at Fangshan communicated with them in English and helped them find the destinations, letting them feel the kindness of Taiwanese people.
Pingtung County Government issued a press release on May 21st, reporting that police officers Zhuang Haosheng and He Guanlin of the Fangshan police officers on the same day found two foreign migrant workers in front of the police station. The police immediately invited them to have a rest in the office, providing warm water and listening to their story.
A 29-year-old man told the police that her name was MJ Fabro, who had served as an elderly caregiver in the Fangshan area. Later, she moved to other places to work but carelessly left his resident card in the former workplace. He made good use of the holiday to come back there with his friends to collect it. Nevertheless, the Fangshan area was so large and they were not familiar with the area, resulting in getting lost. Not knowing what to do, they asked the police for help.
Unfortunately, Fabro didn't know the exact location of the former workplace. She could only remember the name of an old man living in the house she used to work. The police officers followed this unique clue, asked the local residents to find the former employer of Fabro and successfully helped him get the resident card back.
The two foreign migrant workers said that the resident card was very important to them. He really appreciated the police’s support for doing them a big favor, making them realize the police’s generousity and kindness.
According to Huang Guoyuan, the Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, once foreign migrant workers come to work in Taiwan, they must seek for local people’s assistance someday. The local authorities in Lushan will offer prompt assistance and careness to foreign migrants, reflecting the warm-hearted spirit of the police as a reliable service to the public. It also enhaces the positive image of the police in the country.
