The use of AI is reportedly being examined by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) as part of its modernization ambitions, which they intend to put into place by 2024 or 2025.
The bureau's goal is to employ technology on par with that of other nations; that is the ultimate goal. As BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco stated during the Kapihan sa Manila Bay conference on Wednesday, the bureau is now still operating manually.
There are no longer immigration counters at the departure in Vancouver, Canada, for instance. Accordingly, the traveler proceeds directly to the boarding gate from the check-in desk, he or she stated.
The use of such technology, according to Tansingco, does not imply that travelers would be subjected to immigration screening by robots.
According to him, they see travelers going through a system where their passports are automatically scanned and confirmed.
He explained that by reducing in-person encounters between passengers and officials, immigration screening might deter dishonest personnel from committing unlawful conduct.
