Taiwan Health Minister and Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) head Chen Shih-chung (陳時中) on Wednesday (Aug. 5) announced eight public settings where mask-wearing will be compulsory, in response to the country's increased coronavirus cases over the last few weeks.
No cases were reported yesterday, the CECC stated. A total of 476 cases tested positive, 7 of whom passed away, and 26 of whom are still in quarantine. The CECC reminded that the pandemic crisis worldwide continues to put all human beings in danger. A total of 18,516,907 confirmed cases worldwide are from 187 countries/regions; 4,859,337 in the United States, 2,801,921 in Brazil, and 1,855,745 in India.
The CECC said it will re-enact its compulsory mask-wearing policy in all indoor spaces such as medical institutions, stations, markets, or department stores. Additionally, the strict policy on mask-wearing is also compulsory at schools, places of worship, medical and health facilities, public transports, venues of entertainment (KTVs, sports centers, nightclubs, bars, amusement parks), cinemas and concerts, markets (night markets, shopping malls, farmers markets), and large social events.
