Extension of Residence + Job Search Tips: Securing Job Opportunities for Foreign Students Staying in Taiwan
To retain foreign talent, the Taipei Service Station of the National Immigration Agency recently participated in the "Job Hunting Strategies for Foreign Students in Taiwan" seminar held at the National Taiwan Normal University, at the invitation of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council. During the seminar, they explained the new provisions of the Immigration Act and related residence regulations to help foreign students understand their rights in Taiwan and increase their willingness to stay. Currently, foreign students can apply for residence permits entirely online, with applications submitted through the Immigration Agency’s online system. According to the revised regulations, after graduation, foreign students can apply at the service station for a 1-year job search period using their diploma, passport, and residence permit. This period can be extended to 2 years, easing restrictions on staying in Taiwan.
New Immigrants Start Businesses, Creating Millions in Revenue through Cleaning Services
Kaohsiung City currently has more than 60,000 new immigrants. The Social Affairs Bureau has established 5 New Immigrant Family Service Centers and 28 community service points to promote family support, economic development, and skills training for new immigrants. These centers have helped many new immigrants start businesses, including establishing cleaning cooperatives, opening juice shops, and participating in cultural markets, showcasing their active involvement in diverse economic fields. For example, the Mustard Seed Mission assisted in founding the "New Immigrant Cleaning Service Labor Cooperative" in 2019. To date, 25 members have participated, providing professional and detailed cleaning services, generating annual revenue of over one million NTD.
Qiaotou Sugar Factory's Century-Old Sugar Industry Journey Begins
The Taiwan Sugar Corporation's Qiaotou Sugar Factory has a history of 123 years and is Taiwan’s first modernized sugar factory, witnessing the country’s industrialization process. The factory site preserves historical relics of the sugar industry, such as the sugar manufacturing plant, the social housing office, and Japanese-style wooden houses, all of which have been designated as municipal cultural landscapes. To promote the sugar industry’s culture, a series of events will be held from September 21 to November 17, including art performances, real-life puzzle games, the Suzuki Tozaburo cultural exhibition, and a Guanyin blessing event. These activities aim to attract visitors to experience the beauty of culture and history during the autumn season.
Goodbye to Atopic Dermatitis! Combined Chinese and Western Medicine, Internal and External Treatments
Atopic dermatitis is a common chronic skin condition in outpatient clinics, with symptoms including dry skin, itching, and red rashes. Western medical treatments often rely on corticosteroids and immunosuppressants, which can be effective quickly, but many patients are concerned about the long-term side effects. As a result, more people are choosing a combined approach of Chinese and Western medicine, involving both internal and external treatments. This approach can quickly relieve symptoms while reducing the side effects of medication, allowing patients to no longer endure persistent dermatitis. Doctors also remind patients that good lifestyle habits are key to preventing the recurrence of atopic dermatitis. Patients should keep their skin dry, choose cotton clothing, and avoid excessive cleaning. Additionally, maintaining a positive mood and reducing stress is very helpful in controlling flare-ups of atopic dermatitis.
