The "Dream-Building Project for New Immigrants and Their Children" organized by the National Immigration Agency (NIA) is now in its 10th year. Since its inception, this initiative has been committed to helping new immigrants and their children realize their dreams. The journey of the participants is marked by extraordinary passion and determination, inspiring countless others with their achievements and joy. Let’s take a closer look at the exceptional award winners in this year’s "Social Welfare Service Group" and discover how these new immigrants found a sense of belonging in Taiwan while giving back to this land and fostering a cycle of kindness.

"Turning Dreams into Reality, Spreading Love" - Hsieh Chien-Ming, Lee Ting-Yi, Chung Hsuan-Yi, Huang Chen-Yen, Tseng Chih-Hung

Hsieh Chien-Ming and Lee Ting-Yi aspired to use their expertise in air conditioner maintenance to help underprivileged individuals. Guided by their school instructors, they formed a team and invited classmates Chung Hsuan-Yi, Huang Chen-Yen, and Tseng Chih-Hung to join. Through the Dream-Building Project, they provided air conditioning maintenance services to schools and low-income families, alleviating electricity costs.

Regular cleaning not only enhances equipment performance but also extends its lifespan. With the guidance of their instructors, the team cleaned the air conditioners in schools and provided maintenance services for ten low-income households. They also filmed instructional videos to pass on their skills to younger students. The team hopes to continue expanding this initiative to benefit more people in need through their technical expertise.Huang Chen-Yen (far left), Li Ting-Yi (second left), Zeng Zhi-Hong (center), Xie Jian-Ming (second right), and Zhong Xuan-Yi (far right) maintaining air conditioners for low-income households (Photo/Source: NIA Facebook)

"Shared Spaces for a Better Community" - Liu Ming-Feng, Chen Chih-Jui

Liu Ming-Feng sought a place where she could temporarily escape reality and relieve stress. Teaming up with her son, Chen Chih-Jui, she joined the Dream-Building Project to create a sanctuary. Combining personal needs with community demands, she expanded the concept to transform the space into a platform for cultural exchange between new immigrants and local residents.

On the second floor of their shop, Liu Ming-Feng and her son host parent-child crafting activities, such as frozen flower and popsicle DIY workshops, to promote family bonding and help new immigrants better integrate into the community. This shared space not only helps her relieve stress but has also become an important hub for fostering community harmony and multicultural exchange.Parent-Child Tangyuan-Making Activity (Photo/Source: NIA Facebook)
