As the birthplace of Taipei, Wanhua became a central hub for goods in the Taipei Basin due to its convenient water transportation in the early days. Frequent trade across the Taiwan Strait made Wanhua a transition point for a variety of imported goods, leading to the rise of numerous grocery stores. The 2024 Mengjia Life Season, themed "Bringing Back Old Times," will showcase traditional grocery stores in various neighborhood markets. From their peak to their decline, these stores remain integral to people's lives. The series of activities will be held at the Longshan Creative Base, where themed exhibitions and unique markets will let you experience a nostalgic atmosphere.
In its heyday, Wanhua had hundreds of traditional grocery stores spread across its streets. Although the number has significantly decreased due to changes in lifestyle, some beloved stores continue to operate. Fuyu in Dongsan Sui Market and Luobei in Zhixing Market sell daily necessities like dried goods and seasonings. Nichirong Toy & Food Store in Juguang Road Alley specializes in old-fashioned candies and snacks. Butian Foods in the Jiarui Commercial Area, once a general grocery store, now specializes in peanut candies. Guaiguai near Movie Park offers a wide range of snacks and has recently become a celebrated brand in Taiwan.
The "2024 Mengjia Life Season | Bringing Back Old Times" themed exhibition will introduce the current distribution of grocery stores in Wanhua, store profiles, and local shopping routes. The interactive exhibition area allows visitors to use a woven bag to collect items, reminiscent of the joy of shopping at grocery stores in the past. This exhibition is not only a nostalgic journey but also a cultural review and sharing.

The 2024 Mengjia Life Season will take you back to those memorable times. The event runs until August 11, from Tuesday to Sunday, 11 AM to 7 PM, with free admission.
