NIA continuously cooperated with police units, labor administration, Ocean Affairs Council, Investigation Bureau and Military Police Command to proceed national investigation for migrant population. On 19th, the administrative units expanded the investigation and found out 387 overstaying migrant workers. The majority of the overstaying migrant is 240 workers lost in contact which are 51% of Indonesian and 47% of Vietnamese; there is 147 non-missing migrant workers and Vietnamese accounted for 56%, Indonesian accounted for 35%. Meanwhile, NIA has inspected 104 illegal migrant workers, 35 illegal intermediaries and 140 illegal employers.

In addition, NIA promotes confessing project in first half of the year. Administrative units from north to south collaborate to the investigation action, strengthen the inspection of places migrants gather as well as hot spots for illegal activities, including construction sites, foreign stores, food and beverage outlets.

Special Duty Team of New Taipei City found many overstaying migrant workers with the tattoo of “no regrets”. The founded overstaying migrant workers stated that they did not regret coming to Taiwan, but regretted the choice of losing contact. If there is still opportunity to work in Taiwan in the future, they will engage in legal work. The Special Duty Team of Yunlin County also captured the overstaying migrant workers and illegal employer at construction sites.

NIA Director Chiu Feng-kuang (邱豐光) expected that the lost overstaying migrant workers to confess the illegal overstaying to local administrative units by themselves. The active confession would be penalized with paying NT$2,000 to 10,000 overstaying fines and remitted from detention, and the special team will help arrange for the return to the country as soon as possible. Chiu also called out if people have the acquaintance of overstaying migrant workers to encourage them to confess by themselves. He further reminded that the foreigners working in Taiwan need to apply for permission in advance, and illegal employment can be fined up to NT$750,000.
