The Police Regional Office (PRO) 6 (Western Visayas) on Wednesday reported a peaceful Christmas celebration in the region.
As of 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Lt. Col. Joem Malong, PRO-6 spokesperson, said no major incident has transpired during the revelry.
“The region is generally peaceful. We have not received any stray bullet incident or any major incident,” Malong said in a phone interview.
Two minor firecracker incidents, however, have been reported. Malong said the regional office has yet to receive the complete details of the incidents.
She attributed the peace and order situation to the war on drugs, among others. “Because of the war on drugs, we have noticed the lessened cases of (the) eight focused crimes (murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, car, and motorcycle theft),” she said.
Malong also credited the success of the security coverage to the enhanced management of police operations as regular law enforcement activities have been improved with their presence visible in strategic areas.
Despite the peaceful Christmas Eve, she said the police force was still on full alert, also following the recent attack by the Communist Party of the Philippines - New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) in Tubungan town on Monday.
Last year, the regional office recorded three stray bullet incidents with two persons injured and one arrested for indiscriminate firing.
