Taiwanese parents gave birth to Hua Hsu in the USA. His current positions include teaching at Bard College and staff writer for The New Yorker. His published autobiography "STAY TRUE" was not only named one of the top ten books of the year by the New York Times in 2022, but it also recently received the Pulitzer Prize for 2023.

In the book, he makes reference to Ken, a buddy who had a significant impact on him. While Ken's family is of Japanese descent, they have resided in the United States for many generations, in contrast to Hua Hsu. Ken resembles a member of American society more than Hua Hsu does. However, like Hua Hsu, despite their active participation in American culture, the two still frequently feel as though they have no place there. As a result of this similarity, the two grew close.

They frequently conversed in depth late at night while driving great miles. When the two had been friends for less than three years, Ken was tragically assassinated by criminals during a vehicle heist, and Hua Hsu was left reeling. The writings that have been produced since then are the ones that have won awards. The short but intense feelings between the two are described, along with Hua Hsu's family and development. Hua Hsu also discusses his search for the meaning of life and a sense of belonging via creating.
