Translating right is one of the important rights of people to have proximity in law. Ministry of Justice provides translation service for new residents. Taiwan High Prosecutors Office currently has 101 special translators. It also allows the local prosecutors office to share these resources, showing the government pay attention to the judicial protection of new residents and new immigrants.
Ministry of Justice stated that there are many new residents and new immigrants in Taiwan. Thus, the right of proximity on the court is getting more important. It is the right for people to access and use regulation resources in their own language and protect the people in need. Ministry of Justice pointed out that the uses of translation service are increasing. There are 3,200 uses of translation service in 2016, 4,000 uses in 2017 and increased to 4,800 uses in 2018. It shows the government emphasized on the judicial protection to new residents, immigrants and foreigners.
Ministry of Justice plan to cooperate with private company in order to continuously assist the new residents to understand legal translation easily, it will further look out for the foreign institution in Taiwan to join the cooperation so that the new residents can access to use law resources.
