The Executive Yuan recently approved the Ministry of Education's "Closing the Gap between Public and Private Schools and Supporting Measures" to lessen the burden on students and parents. These measures include free tuition for public and private high school vocational students, improved student loan application procedures, a yearly reduction in tuition and fees of NT$35,000 for private colleges, and a subsidy of NT$15,000 to NT$20,000. The three auxiliary measures lighten the financial load on students' parents while also giving them more financial security when selecting the department and school they wish to attend. In February 2024, the pertinent strategy is anticipated to be put into action.

In addition to the fixed amount of NT$20,000 in tuition and other fees for students with an annual family income of less than NT$700,000, this time a new increase in family income is added to the annual reduction of NT$35,000 in tuition and other fees for private colleges and universities. Tuition and other expenses for students with incomes between NT$700,000 and NT$900,000 are reduced by NT$15,000 as well.
Additionally, students enrolled in general education courses in the second and third grades at comprehensive high schools and whose families earn more than NT$1.48 million annually are completely free from paying tuition fee.

The loan application requirement for student loans has been lowered this time, and child rearing has been included as a grade. Students who apply for loans have their interest eliminated for the semester if their family's yearly income is under NT$1.2 million. More information on Executive Yuan website.
