The New Taipei City Government Labor Bureau and the Indonesian Economic and Trade Office to Taipei jointly hosted the "2024 Indonesian Migrant Workers Cultural Carnival" on August 25 at Banqiao Civic Square. The event attracted about 12,000 participants and was lively. Labor Bureau Director Chen Ruijia and Kadir, the Head of the Labor Section of the Indonesian Office, attended the event and gave speeches, followed by a joint cutting of the turmeric rice tower, symbolizing the friendly relations between the two countries. Despite the hot weather, nothing could stop Indonesian migrant workers from passionately supporting the famous love song prince, Denny Caknan. The workers sang together on-site, creating an electrifying atmosphere.
Chen Ruijia mentioned that there are currently over 41,000 Indonesian migrant workers in New Taipei City, making them the largest group by nationality, contributing significantly in fields such as caregiving, manufacturing, and major construction projects. Through today's event, the city government hopes to provide a great time for Indonesian migrant workers and new resident friends and announced that the 2025 World Workers Games registration qualifications for migrant workers will match those of local workers, with an 80% discount on registration fees to encourage their active participation. Kadir thanked the organizers and encouraged migrant workers to work in Taiwan through legal channels for a stable life.
The event opened with a stunning performance by the Indonesian migrant rock band SID'er ROSE, followed by a fashion show and dance performance by the Indonesian fashion brand Nusantara Mila Boutique, showcasing traditional ethnic costumes, which were highly praised. The grand finale featured singer-songwriter Denny Caknan, who has millions of fans. His performance, blending traditional Indonesian music with the modern Pop Jawa style, brought the audience to its peak. Denny's impressive vocal skills and engaging stage presence led to a massive sing-along, reaching the atmosphere's climax. In addition to the spectacular performances, the event also featured Indonesian cuisine, traditional batik DIY, information booths on migrant laws, free visually-impaired massage, free haircuts, and medical services by Tzu Chi. These provided citizens with the opportunity to experience the beauty and diversity of foreign cultures firsthand. A specially designated rest area was set up to allow migrant workers to bring along those they care for, fostering an inclusive and respectful environment.
