Summer Activities Enriching Children's Lives at Hualien CCF's LEGO Camp

Summer break is a highly anticipated time for children, and making it meaningful and fulfilling is a significant challenge for parents. To address this, the Jian Service Center of Hualien Child and Family Foundation (CCF) organized the "Building Blocks Battle in Jian" LEGO camp. Fifteen elementary school students supported by Hualien CCF participated in the four-day camp, designed to spark curiosity and creativity in children.

The camp featured Chen Minghua, an instructor from the Creative LEGO Workshop, who guided the children in hands-on activities, exploring the application of physics in LEGO construction. The activities went beyond mere building; they emphasized using LEGO games to unlock children's potential, fostering creativity, and problem-solving skills. Research shows that such games can enhance spatial awareness, social interaction, and hand-eye coordination, contributing significantly to the overall development of children.Learning Physical Phenomena Through Building Blocks is Fun and Rewarding  (Photo: Courtesy of Hualien CCF Center)

Engaging and Challenging Experience

The participating children had their unique takeaways. Xiao Bin, who already enjoyed building with LEGO, discovered new variations and combinations, which excited him. Upper elementary student Rui Rui shared that although he played with LEGO at home, collaborating and discussing with other children in the camp was more enjoyable and challenging. He learned new LEGO building techniques and physical phenomena.

A Rewarding Four-Day Experience

The four-day LEGO camp allowed children to complete their creations and experience a sense of accomplishment. Many children reported learning patience and perseverance and making new friends, enjoying the fun of teamwork. For older children, learning physics through LEGO was an invaluable experience.

Hualien CCF Director Shi Zhengyan stated that the LEGO camp's rich activities provided children with a unique LEGO paradise, offering special learning and recreational experiences during the summer. This not only sparked the children's interest in new things but also allowed parents to work with peace of mind, enhancing the quality of life for supported families.
